The Haute Loge , at the end of Moussey and at about 933 meters, it fits better as a liaison coat within long days than as an isolated destination in itself. The environment moves between forest tracks, forest lomas and soft hills, in a contact strip between the Saint- Dié-des-Vosges sector and the Alsatian area near Plaine. This position makes it a useful reference when it is advanced by more linear than alpine terrain, where the map and reading of forest crossings remain important.
His practical interest appears especially when he looks at the traverses that cross this area. The GR 5 in its section between Le Donon and Ballon d'Alsace, the GR 532 , GR 533 and tours such as the Sentier de la Sarre or the circuit of the col des marcassins draw a territory of inbound itineraries, with stages of very variable distance. In this context, the shelter can serve as an intermediate point for starting a day, adjusting a journey or solving a night on the road without going down to the inhabited core.
Logistics should be put forward with caution. No immediate sources appear next to the coat and the nearest ones are several kilometres away, with the first one about 3.8 km away. This makes it advisable to go out with enough water and not to have easy resupply in the vicinity. At this point, too, time can change quickly in wet, cold or fog days, something common in the forest cords of the Vosgos.
It also interests to understand it as a navigation reference. As it is linked to a route forestère and not to a great milestone of relief, it can be more useful as a point marked on cartography than as an element visible from afar. In long tours, this difference matters: it helps to order the stage, confirm position and decide whether it is appropriate to continue, stop or reorganize the itinerary according to light, meteorology and reservations.
Without clear data on equipment or services, it is reasonable to plan with autonomy. On a journey through this half-mountain forest area, this approach is often more important than the technical difficulty of the land.
