Mountain refuge Cabane Laga de Baigt

Modest base in the Vallée d'Ossau . The Cabane Laga de Baigt appears in the term of Eaux-Bonnes on the chemin du Gourzy sector and on the French side of the Atlantic Pyrenees, an area closely linked to the rise to the Aubisque and to the reliefs that close the valley above the forests and pastures.

Its altitude, 1361 meters, places it in a half-mountain strip useful to gain height before entering more open terrain. From here the nearby relief gives a quite clear reference: the Signal du Gourzy is very close, while summits like the Pic de Ger or Pic de Cézy help to understand the mountainous character of the environment, already in transition to more serious levels. It is not appropriate to read it as a high-level shelter, but as an intermediate support in an area where the valley, the slopes and the cords mark a great deal of orientation.

It can also fit in walking tours in the valley, as close by they pass marked itineraries like the Voie d'Ossau and variants of the Tour de la Vallée d'Ossau. More than working as a destination in itself, it makes sense as a point of passage or support to divide a day, link local roads or approach routes looking for lakes and summits in the sector.

Access and actual demand depend on the chosen route, but the land of this part of Ossau often combines clear paths with sections where the slope is noted as soon as the valley bottom is left. This is why it is interesting to carry a simple mental map reference: Eaux-Bonnes below, the Gourzy axis as a near orientation and the cords summits as a visual background.

A conservative approach should be maintained in logistics. There are relatively close water points, with a source and other supply points at just over a kilometre, but in the mountain it should not be taken for granted its availability without first checking. If you plan to use the cabin as a support, it is wise to leave with sufficient autonomy and not to have equipment or services that are not confirmed.
