Mountain refuge Cabane des Tavernes

Support in the Le Haut-Bréda sector

Cabane des Tavernes is located in the surroundings of Le Haut-Bréda, in the massif of Belledonne, within Auvernia-Rhódano-Alpes. At 1343 meters, it fits more as a support coat in half a mountain than as a very high-end shelter, and its practical interest is in the relationship with the itineraries that travel this sector over and through the side valleys of La Ferrière and Pinsot.

Their position can be useful for those who move by the Haute Traversée de Belledonne and the stages of GR 738 especially if you want to divide the day, adjust the effort or value a small deviation from the main axis of the journey. In the environment there are summits and dorsal like Crêt du Poulet o Le Grand Rocher, which help to understand the character of the land: mountain looms and reliefs with continuity, where the general orientation of the valley and the link between trails weigh more than the purely alpine difficulty.

To plan the day it is necessary to have reasonable autonomy. The invented sources are not attached to the shelter, but more than 2 kilometres away, so it is not wise to take the water for granted in the vicinity. It is also not appropriate to base the exit on unconfirmed services. In an area like this, with several passing routes and variable distances according to the chosen link, the most sensible thing is to raise the shelter as a point of guard and route organization, not as a self-sufficient destination without prior preparation.
