At 1423 meters of altitude, this construction is integrated into a landscape of shared management between several Cantabrian municipalities, offering a clear reference point on the northern side of these mountains. The surrounding terrain, characteristic of the Brotherhood of Campoo of Suso, alternates herbous slopes with rocky florings, setting up a scenario where the livestock activity cools with the transit of mountaineers that travel the most eastern sector of the massif.
Its position is strategic for those who seek to reach the summits that crown the divisive. The Cueto de Orbaneja is within walking distance, while larger ascent such as the Liguardi peak or the Cordel, which exceeds two thousand meters, are accessible following the cords that rise above the cabin. These tops allow for a complete perspective of the Saja Reserve and the Campoo valleys, making this shelter a functional operational basis for dividing the ascending days or to be kept in the face of changes in the conditions of the cordal.
In the area of the great traverses, the area is crossed by long-distance itineraries such as the GR 71, known as the Senda de la Reserva del Saja, and the GR 1 Historical Path. The Cabana de Reburdiajos acts as a link node between these trails, facilitating the connection between Mazandrero and the ports that give access to Cabuerniga. For the senderist who carries out long stages, this point allows to manage the physical effort before facing the levels that lead to Peña Iján or the Cuetu de la Conjilla, optimizing the passing times in a demanding mountain environment.
Because of its nature as a free shelter in a grazing area, it is essential to provide for total autonomy in terms of equipment and supplies. The availability of water must be planned in advance, as the nearest source is located almost two kilometres away, which requires sufficient reserves to be loaded before it is established. In the absence of secure services or fixed equipment, the state of the interior depends on the responsible use of the users. It is recommended to always verify the weather forecast, as exposure on these slopes of Cantabria may complicate the orientation in days of closed fog or intense wind.
